EUGENE, Ore. – Former Oregon closer Jimmie Sherfy was called up today by the Arizona Diamondbacks becoming the fourth Duck of the modern era to reach the big leagues.
Sherfy, a 10th-round draft pick in the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, was an All-American and a finalist for the NCBWA Stopper of the Year award in both 2012 and 2013 at Oregon when he combined for a school-record 40 saves. As a junior, the right-handed pitcher was also a semifinalist for the Golden Spikes Award while earning first-team All-Pac-12 Conference recognition for the second straight season.
