UTEP's volleyball team was within a heartbeat of victory once, twice, three times, four times Sunday afternoon in Memorial Gym.
But it all slipped away.
Abilene Christian shrugged off match points four times in the fourth set Sunday and then came back to win that set and then the fifth and final set to take a tense 3-2 win over the Miners.
Abilene Christian won the opening set 25-23 but UTEP countered with a second set win 27-25 and then the Miners took the third set 25-18.
UTEP, needing just one more set to win the match, took a 5-0 lead in the fourth set.
