EUGENE, Ore. — In track and field, a sport based around stop watches and tape measures, luck tends to balance out.
That was a good thing for UTEP hurdler Tobi Amusan on Thursday at the NCAA Track and Field National Championships. A day after her teammate Jonah Koech missed qualifying for the eight-person final in the 800 meters by the narrowest of margins, the Miners' other freshman sensation grabbed the last spot to Saturday's 100 hurdles final.
Running in the third, final and fastest heat, Amusan finished fourth, but her time of 12.98 seconds meant her heat accounted for half of the finals field.
