For almost three and a half quarters, the pesky, upset-minded Hanks boys basketball team turned back every run from Burges in their Class 5A bidistrict playoff game Tuesday night, absorbed every body punch, hung around and hung around.
That left one way for the Mustangs to earn what turned into a 55-44 victory: They had to win it late.
In the final 4:45, they were just about perfect. Clinging to a 42-40 lead as the stretch run arrived, Burges outscored Hanks 13-4 the rest of the way to earn an area-round game Friday night with Lubbock Coronado.
