When the sun came up on Camp Alpine on Aug. 9, 2013, it was obviously the beginning of a new era because of the presence on the field of first-year coach Sean Kugler.
What no one knew was a different era was also about to begin.
About midway through that first workout, the ball was pitched to a skinny freshman tailback from Burges, one who picked UTEP over New Mexico State and UTSA partly because they were the only one of those three to offer his twin brother a scholarship.
Aaron Jones blew into a hole, threw a stiff-arm, sprinted past everyone, and looked back to his twin Alvin, then a safety, to let him know he was on his way.
