UTEP torched FIU for nine 3-pointers in the first half and then played solid defense the final half to take its first road victory of the season Thursday night in Miami.
The Miners shot 56.3 percent from the field and 57.9 percent from beyond the 3-point arc to take a pivotal 84-74 win over the Panthers in front of a small gathering of 936 fans in FIU Gym.
The much-needed win was the third straight for the Miners, scooting them to 14-11 on the season and leveling their Conference USA record at 6-6. It was a key win, a road win and a win over a team that beat the Miners 79-69 on Jan.
