Huge second quarter lifts Miners past Marshall

UTEP coach Keitha Adams set a specific goal for her team as it tried to turn its season around Sunday against Marshall.

She wanted them to be better in the second quarter.

Well, that looked easy.

A UTEP team that had been outscored by 30 points in the previous two second periods, one that has been outscored by almost five points per game in that quarter over the course of the year, ran off and left the Thundering Herd, using a 30-10 burst to set the stage for an 84-74 victory that moved them to 3-5 in Conference USA.
