The wind was always going to hit the UTEP springtime season-opening outdoor track meet, but it held off long enough to set up a special day for Evonne Britton and UTEP's Tobi Amusan.
With a just-about-perfect legal tailwind of 1.4 meters per second, Chapin grad Britton, now a training partner of Amusan, ran a world-leading time of 13.00 seconds that exactly qualified her for the U.S. Olympic trials, and the freshman Amusan, the reigning African champion, chased her home in 13.06. That time is the fourth fastest in the world this year and matched the third fastest in UTEP history.
