A week ago, UTEP was trying to fix everything about its offense.
Perhaps it's a sign of progress that heading into Saturday's game with Florida International, coming off a 28-7 loss at Louisiana Tech that wasn't completely demoralizing, the goals have narrowed.
The Miners need to cut down on penalties and start winning the turnover battle. With regard to the penalties, including two holds and a chop block that played a big part in ending three drives, coach Sean Kugler offered a specific remedy at his Monday news conference.
"When you do the same things over and over, you look at scheme, you look at personnel, you look at how you're coaching them," Kugler said.
