Western Kentucky’s first-year coach Mike Stanford is a vanguard for a new generation.
The 35-year-old is the second-youngest coach in the FBS and he has inherited the reins of the two-time defending Conference USA champion that blows into town Saturday to take on UTEP.
That should make this question easy: In 13 whole years of coaching, has he ever prepared for a team when five days before kickoff he didn’t know who the opposing head coach would be?
"Actually two years ago when I was at Notre Dame,” Sanford, a man with a stunningly long resume for someone his age, said on Monday, about an hour before Mike Price was hired to be UTEP’s interim coach.
