The UTEP football team doesn't spend much time at the tight end position which is almost always good for them, and that certainly will be true in September when one of their most productive offensive players, Hayden Plinke, returns from injury to lead the unit.
As for the spring, a different, newer group is holding down the tight end fort. Junior Sterling Napier is a veteran hand, but the other player with experience there, Cole Ford, who seemed on the verge of a breakout, is transferring.
That means opportunity has arrived for two players who haven't seen much of the field in sophomore Augie Touris and freshman Jorge Rodriguez, who was moved from defensive end two weeks ago to take the place of the departed Ford.
