Going back to the first days of UTEP's new offensive system last spring, it was billed as a multidimensional attack full of threats that was going to stretch defenses and keep them from keying on tailback Aaron Jones.
Through half of this season, that offense has shown exactly one dimension on a consistent basis, and all defenses have had to do is sit on Jones, something they've done with better results each passing week.
If UTEP is going to save something from this season, that has to change. The Miners need to rediscover long balls and an explosive passing game this Saturday against UTSA, and that now falls to quarterback Ryan Metz and a touted corps of receivers in need of a breakout.
