Miners lose crucial game after refs reverse call

Bob Moore/ El Paso Times

Old Dominion held off UTEP, 62-61, on Thursday night in Conference USA men's basketball action.

Omega Harris made a quick move, launched a prayer for the win and then, out of nowhere, Ball hit iron.

But Matt Willms flew in and tipped what appeared to be the game winner through the hoop ... the red light still off when his hand left the ball ... one-tenth of a second showing on the scoreboard clock when hand left ball.

The enthusiastic crowd of 8,663 erupted, lifting the Don Haskins Center roof, thinking the Miners had pulled one more miraculous rabbit out of the hat, thinking the Miners had edged Old Dominion 63-62, thinking the Miners had clinched third place in the final Conference USA standings.
