UTEP opened softball season, Thursday and the Miners had trouble getting hits in game one. Not in game two.
Incarnate Word starter Bridget Stein handcuffed the Miners with only three hits, leading the Cardinals to a 4-1 season opening victory Thursday afternoon at Helen of Troy Softball Field. But the Miners boomed back in game two, taking a 13-3 win in only five innings.
Courtney Clayton supplied UTEP's lone run in the opener with a solo shot over the center field fence and then the sophomore second baseman came back with a monster game in the nightcap, going 4 for 4 with another home run and four runs batted in.
