UTEP's Winny Koech finished second in the women's race and Miner Jonah Koech took second in the men's race Friday morning in the NCAA Mountain Region Cross Country meet in Logan, Utah.
The two Miners, not related, qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 18, in Terre Haute, Ind. The top four individuals qualify automatically.
The UTEP men's team finished fifth overall behind a quartet of nationally ranked teams — No. 1 Northern Arizona, No. 2 Colorado, No. 3 BYU and No. 19 Colorado State. Only the top two teams receive an automatic NCAA bid.
