Through the beginning of an offseason staff shuffle, UTEP football coach Sean Kugler brought a remarkable amount of experience to the program with the hires of two veteran coordinators and a receivers coach.
For his fourth and presumably final hire of the offseason, he brought "youth and energy."
Derrius Bell, a former player and then coach at SMU under new Miner defensive coordinator Tom Mason, was hired to coach cornerbacks and replace Gabe Franklin, who took a job at his alma mater Boise State.
"We have a lot of experience, now we're bringing a young guy with youth and energy," Kugler said of the 26-year-old Bell.
