RUIDOSO, N.M. — UTEP got its first bad news on the injury front this year, as Trayvon Hughes, projected as the backup tailback to Aaron Jones, tore the meniscus cartilage in his knee in Tuesday's scrimmage. He will miss the season.

This could mean an open door for true freshman Quadraiz Wadley, who has been a camp sensation so far.

Other candidates are Orion Prescott, TK Powell and Kevin Dove, and when he returns from a minor injury, Tyrone Nelson. Powell had 21 carries in three games last year with a 6.4 yard-per-carry average.

"It puts us in a situation where we're going to have to use younger players," coach Sean Kugler said.
