Notes: North Texas overcomes injuries to QB, TB

For the third consecutive season, the UTEP football team hosted a group of 15 children from the Child Crisis Center of El Paso to their Thanksgiving dinner that followed Thursday's practice.

"They didn't have anywhere to go and we have plenty," UTEP director of football operations Nate Poss said.

UTEP also hosts a group from the crisis center every Wednesday to meet with players.

Overcoming adversity

What was especially impressive about North Texas ending a three-game losing streak last week against Southern Miss was that they did it without two key offensive players.

Freshman quarterback Mason Fine, who started nine consecutive games was out with an injury and opening-day starter Alec Morris, a transfer from Alabama, came in and threw for 267 yards and two touchdowns.
