Turnovers key to Miners' success

Through the UTEP women's basketball team's 7-0 start, the one area that coach Keitha Adams has most consistently praised is her team's defense.

That shows up most notably in turnovers. The Miners have forced an average of 21.7 turnovers with an average of 12.0 steals per game, statistics that rank them tied for 24th and tied for 18th nationally out of 344 teams. They lead Conference USA in both categories.

"We're athletic, we've got speed," Adams said. "For us to be successful, we need to be good on defense. We've had some games where we played hard, and with athleticism when you're playing hard, good things happen.
