UTEP is now without Mack Leftwich, who is out for at least the rest of spring after having shoulder surgery Thursday.
Coach Sean Kugler didn't know his status for the fall, but at the moment, UTEP has just two quarterbacks in Ryan Metz and Kavika Johnson. At Friday's scrimmage, Metz ran the third team in addition to the first team, while Johnson was with the second team.
The best news on the injury front of the spring was that linebacker Nick Usher, who was supposed to be out for all 15 workouts, played on a limited basis Friday.
