UTEP entered the 2016 football season with uncommon optimism, but when they kicked off against New Mexico State Saturday night, there were so many unknowns.

The Miners have typically struggled in the first year under new defenses and four of their starters were in new positions. They have a new offense, too, with a quarterback in Zach Greenlee who won the job because of his consistency in camp but had a history at Fresno State that wasn't particularly consistent.

UTEP didn't hit much in August. Would they be ready?
