UTEP improvement lends hope going forward

By the ultimate measure of an offense — the biggest number on the scoreboard that records the points — UTEP's 28-7 loss to Louisiana Tech Saturday night was more of the same.

The details do, however, paint a more encouraging picture. Unlike the previous three losses, there were specific things UTEP could circle that they need to work on, other than just "all of it."

There were also things they could point to that they did well, though finding a productive quarterback may not have helped that much if Ryan Metz misses time with a concussion.

But in racking up 415 yards — 293 passing to eight different players and 122 rushing without a run longer than nine yards — and 22 first downs, there was something to build on.
